It is important to understand what punning is and what it is not — POP punning is a surface finishing process, not a false ceiling. It does not create a suspended ceiling plane or alter the room's ceiling height. Its purpose is to produce a perfectly smooth, flat surface on existing walls and ceilings, filling the micro-undulations, trowel marks, and patch zones that are characteristic of cement plaster finishes. This smooth surface is the proper canvas for premium interior paints.
The need for POP punning arises from the nature of cement plaster. Even well-executed cement plaster has surface variations — slight ripples, coarser aggregate showing through, corner bead transitions, and re-plaster patches that are visible under raking light. When paint is applied directly over this surface, these irregularities show through, particularly in rooms with strong directional light or large flat wall planes. A thin first coat of POP is applied across the entire surface, pressed firmly into the plaster texture to maximise mechanical bond. This coat is not the final surface — it establishes bond and fills the deepest surface variations. It is allowed to partially set before the second coat is applied.
The finishing coat is applied over the partially set bonding coat and trowelled to a smooth, flat surface. The punned surface is allowed to cure for a minimum of 3 days in Bangalore's typical climate.
